Our Origin

It started with one child

In 2006, Marten Dresen met a young girl named Mirna while volunteering in Guatemala. She had no shoes. He gave her a pair, and the moment stayed with him.

That simple encounter became the beginning of something larger: a belief that lasting change requires education, commitment, and opportunity over time. Today, Niños de Guatemala operates three schools and supports hundreds of families each year near Antigua Guatemala.

Many children in Guatemala face more than one barrier at the same time. Poverty, weak access to quality education, family pressure, and poor nutrition can all affect whether a student stays in school and learns enough to move forward. That is why education has to be more than a classroom.

Carlos's Journey

From Barriers to Big Dreams

When Carlos first came to Niños de Guatemala, malnutrition and reading gaps made school feel overwhelming. With daily nutrition, intensive reading support, and bilingual tutoring, Carlos caught up with his peers. Today, he is a confident student who plans to pursue a computer science degree.
